Breeding in Billion Egg Farm is a lookup: you put two chickens together and get one fixed result. The community breeding list that players pass around starts with Chickeat plus Leaf making Marin, and works up through Crow, Swallow, Penguin, Flamingo, Bull and the cattle line.
The documented pairs
| Parents | Result |
|---|---|
| Chickeat + Leaf | Marin |
| Chickeat + Sand | Magma |
| Leaf + Sand | Snow |
| Snow + Magma | Crow |
| Magma + Marin | Bull |
| Crow + Leaf | Swallow |
| Crow + Snow | Penguin |
| Crow + Marin | Flamingo |
| Swallow + Magma | Vulture |
| Vulture + Flamingo | Crimson |
| Bull + Magma | Angus Bull |
| Bull + Snow | Jersey Bull |
| Angus Bull + Jersey Bull | Wagyu Bull |
| Wagyu Bull + Jersey Bull | Albino Bull |
| Wagyu Bull + Albino Bull | Goat |
| Swallow + Crimson | Cobalt |
| Penguin + Crimson | Amber |
The first three rows turn two cheap birds into a third, and everything after that uses a breed you have already produced — the list is a tech tree written as pairs. The cattle rows are the clearest example: Bull plus Magma gives Angus, Bull plus Snow gives Jersey, and the two cattle breeds then combine upward.
Eggs, incubators and the 1,500 buy-in
Breeding produces eggs, and eggs need somewhere to hatch. A recorded run buys an egg incubator for 1,500 and immediately runs into the failure state that the Steam discussions complain about: eggs going into the incubator and breaking.
The same run later unlocks an infinite egg incubator, described as hatching all eggs and not breaking them.
What the recorded run shows about failed pairs
In the recorded run the player buys a bull, a swallow, a penguin and a flamingo, tries swallow plus bull, flamingo plus bull, penguin plus swallow and flamingo plus swallow, and gets nothing from any of them. Adding a crow does not help either.
The same player then wonders whether the birds need individual pens. The run does not answer that question, but none of those four pairings appears on the list.

What the output is worth
The breeds differ in what they give you. The same run notes that a bull chicken costs 100 gold and lays eggs a bit slower.
Later unlocks in the run point at the same production line — an item sorter that splits eggs, meat and other sellables into separate outputs, an omelet recipe that uses two eggs of matching rarity, and a shotgun auto turret.
FAQ
- How does breeding work in Billion Egg Farm?
- You pair two chickens and get one fixed result. A community breeding list maps each pair to its offspring, starting with Chickeat plus Leaf producing Marin.
- What do you need to hatch eggs?
- An egg incubator. A recorded run buys one for 1,500, and the same run treats eggs that break in the incubator as a real failure state rather than a cosmetic effect.
- Why do my chickens refuse to breed?
- In a recorded run the pairs that failed were ones the player had put together without checking the list — swallow plus bull, flamingo plus bull, penguin plus swallow all produced nothing, and adding a crow changed nothing. The list is the answer, not the pen.
- What is the first breed chain?
- Chickeat plus Leaf makes Marin, Chickeat plus Sand makes Magma, and Leaf plus Sand makes Snow. From there the list moves through Crow, Swallow, Penguin, Flamingo, Bull and the higher cattle breeds.
- Is there a way to stop eggs breaking?
- A recorded run unlocks an infinite egg incubator that hatches all eggs; the same tip says eggs will not break in it. Until that unlock, breaking is the risk you manage.
